As more people embrace the digital world , online scams and cyber threats are rising rapidly
As more people embrace the digital world for work, shopping, investing, and learning, online scams and cyber threats are rising rapidly. Africa is experiencing a boom in internet connectivity—but with it comes increased risk, especially for digital entrepreneurs, students, job seekers, and everyday users.
At Linkboy Academy, we’re committed to helping you navigate the digital space safely and confidently. Here are 5 practical ways to protect yourself online in 2025:

Most scams start with a simple click—on a link, attachment, or pop-up.Whether it’s an email promising a job, a WhatsApp message saying you’ve won a prize, or an SMS about a “missed delivery”—be skeptical.
✅️Avoid clicking unknown links.
✅️Don’t download attachments from people you don’t know.
✅️Watch out for fake websites that look like real ones.
✅️Job scams, fake package deliveries, and phishing emails are still the most common traps—stay alert.

The rise of forex trading, crypto platforms, and pyramid schemes in Africa has led to millions being defrauded by fake “investment” sites.
If someone promises: Daily or weekly returns with no risk, You must “upgrade your package” or recruit others to earn more,Or says, “Just send R200/$10 to start earning…”It’s likely a scam.
✅️Always research platforms, check reviews, and verify if they’re regulated.

Still using 123456 or yourbirthday as a password? It’s time to level up.
✅️Use a password manager to create and store strong, unique passwords.
✅️Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on all your important accounts (email, banking, social media).
This extra step can stop hackers—even if they have your password.

Be careful what you post online. Scammers use information you share on social media (like your phone number, email, or workplace) to tailor their attacks.
✅️Avoid filling out unknown online surveys.
✅️Don’t post screenshots of IDs, passports, or banking details—even partially.
✅️Keep your privacy settings tight, especially on Facebook and Instagram.

Online scams are getting smarter, but so can you.
Common red flags include:
✅️Unsolicited job offers asking for “registration fees.”
✅️Poor grammar and spelling in messages. ( beware that with the rise of AI scammers are now using these tools to create the perfect messages)
✅️Pressure to act urgently (“limited time offer,” “your account will be suspended”).
✅️Contacts who refuse to video call or speak on the phone.
The internet is powerful, but only if you use it wisely.
